SRP ’ s First Annual Conference Since the Start of the Pandemic SRP ’ s 2021 Annual Conference was able to go ahead in July ; it was the Society ’ s first face-toface event since the COVID-19 pandemic began . Featuring a large exhibition , both live and online presentations and two evening functions , this was an event definitely not to forget . There were many firsts for this conference : SRP launched its 5K fun run which took place ( at 07.00 on the first day ) along the beautiful seafront of Bournemouth ; an event app for both physical and online delegates , and it was also the first time that presentations were streamed live .
Charlene Matthewman , SRP ’ s Events and Communications Manager , said ; “ Harris Associates ( SRP ’ s Admin Team ) was proud to help run SRP ’ s Annual Conference in July . It was the first time the Society had run a hybrid event meaning that we had both physical and online delegates as well as a number of virtual presenters . We made sure that we had all COVID-19 safety aspects in place and followed the UK Government guidelines in order for this conference to take place . We had a very tight turnaround to offer live streaming for both presenters and delegates from the conference venue , and - as with anything technical - there were unfortunately some hitches but , other than these , I felt it ran as smoothly as ever . There are definitely different ways that we ’ d like to run the conference next year in terms of access for online delegates , whilst encouraging as many delegates as possible
Some of the runners on the beach in Bournemouth with their 5K medals . to attend in person ; we all know how important face-to-face professional networking is . It ’ s important that we keep our events running for both SRP members and non-members to gain those all-important Continuing Professional Development points ; we ’ re also scheduling in many more free webinars along with a few more face-to-face events . This was one of the first big conferences to take place this year and I was very honoured to be a part of making it happen !”
See all the photos on the SRP website ( Past Event archive ). Also available to everyone is the 2021 Dunster Lecture ‘ Learning from Chernobyl ’ given by Prof Mike Wood . All other presentations can only be viewed by registered delegates at the event .
Congratulations to Mutahir Ahmad of UKHSA who came first on the Conf App leaderboard – points were gained by using the App and visiting the exhibition stands during the event .
Next year our Annual Conference , which will focus on session headlines for each sector within radiation protection , rather than having a specific theme ( all topics can be found on the conference website ), will take place at Venue Cymru in Llandudno from 14 – 16 June 2022 . We are offering both physical and online delegate places as well as exhibition spaces available for you to book . See www . srp-uk . org for full details or email admin @ srp-uk . org
