Medicine Medical staff in diagnostic radiology , radiotherapy , nuclear medicine and dentistry may receive doses . These are typically well below the levels at which workers must be Classified . With a small number of Classified workers , occupational doses are often not as complete as for other industries and details such as which hospital department they work in may not be recorded . As a result , there are several “ unspecified ” hospital workers in the graph below .
Workers in nuclear medicine tend to receive higher doses than those in other areas of medicine . The average occupational dose for these workers has clearly increased as nuclear medicine workloads have increased substantially over time . For most other medical sectors , the estimated doses have remained stable , though a noticeable reduction is seen in dental X-ray doses in the later part of this time period , due to better equipment and practices .
