International Radiation Protection Association European Congress 2026

Jim is a Registered Clinical Scientist specialising in Diagnostic Radiology Physics and Radiation Protection and is a certificated Radiation Protection Adviser, with over 35 years of experience working in hospitals in the UK. Jim is Chair of the 2026 European Congress Organising Committee and a Past President of SRP.

7th European IRPA Congress 1 – 5 June 2026, ACC Liverpool

At the 6th International Radiation Protection Association( IRPA) European Congress held in Budapest, Hungary in June 2022, a proposal by SRP to hold the next Congress in Liverpool in 2026 was agreed by IRPA. Our journey began back then to organise and host what will be the first IRPA Congress in the UK since the World Congress of 2012 in Glasgow. The Congress will be held at the Arena and Convention Centre( ACC) in Liverpool, which is a wonderful venue on the banks of the River Mersey next to the Royal Albert Dock, Museum of Liverpool and the Pierhead, and has plenty of hotel accommodation nearby.

Over the past couple of years, the Organising Committee has made a lot of progress on the overall design and structure of the Congress, including technical tours and social events. We have also assembled an excellent Programme Committee to focus specifically on organisation of the scientific programme, including invited speakers, workshops and refresher courses. on venues for technical visits and social events. Invited speakers have been identified to address the Congress Theme of“ Encouraging Collaboration in Radiation Protection” and to set the scene for each of the main topic sessions and panel discussions.

We have received an overwhelming number of proffered papers which, at the time of writing this article, are being reviewed. We ' re aiming to release the programme in early 2026 and we encourage as many of you as possible to register for the Congress with the Early Bird Delegate rate before it ends on 31 January 2026.

As I have said previously, the Congress will be solely successful through the participation of those attending and contributing to it. I do urge you all to continue to check out the website and to look out for further announcements over the next few months.
