When the world was forced into a new way of working over the last year , video conference technology enabled the events team at SRP to increase the number of events held , whilst broadening the reach to a wider audience worldwide . Moving events online has also helped SRP to provide a more diverse programme of talks to its members .

“ We ’ ve learned a lot about how to organise and run online Live Events and conferences over the last year . Microsoft Teams has been our platform of choice , taking into account our audience and increased security aspects , and has been well received .

We ’ ve also had to adopt new ways of preparing for these events . We always do a rehearsal to ensure our guest speakers have a good internet connection , and that the technical challenges of streaming and sharing live data are minimised ! There ’ s a lot that goes on in the background during these events , from taking bookings , moderating Q & A sessions , sending certificates of attendance and editing the event videos for posting on our YouTube channel .

Our last event saw a leap forward in further embracing features of Microsoft Teams , where we were able set up virtual breakout rooms for attendees to gather and discuss – each room had a theme and moderator to encourage conversation – it was a great success in engaging with our audience .

This has definitely been a massive success for SRP in COVID-19 times , and we ’ re certainly looking into adopting new hybrid approaches for hosting future events .”
