enjoy playing guitar – rock mostly – I played at my son ' s wedding , which was great . I have a sizeable collection of guitars including a US-built Fender Stratocaster . I also played rugby - centre , that is shirt number 12 or 13 , then I took up refereeing . But after a while I just wasn ' t interested in continuing . I am a big military history buff – especially 20th century – World Wars I and II . I have so many books .
Quick fire :
Olympics or Wimbledon ? Olympics – but I ' ve never been to an event .
Holiday wish list – Italy , because of the climate and the food .
Favourite animal - labradoodle , but my dog sadly died a few years ago .
Favourite colour - red .
Favourite piece of classical music - Tom and Jerry ' s Liszt ' s Hungarian Rhapsody No . 2 .
Final thoughts I ' d like to say how genuinely surprised and moved I was regarding the kind words and wishes many people gave on my retirement . I knew my reputation in some quarters was ' a bit of a tyrant ', but other areas knew me as a ' pussycat '. I have a strong sense of right and wrong and am fed up with people insisting that their wrongdoing was correct . People would respond “ no … but ..”. People would just not comply . I ' m happy to be involved in the debate to raise the issues I see within the regulatory oversight of non-nuclear .
I would hope the community becomes wiser and more proactive regarding non-nuclear radiation protection issues . The community is very good at radiation protection in its various sectors , and very keen . I have really , really enjoyed working within the radiation protection community , which consists of really kind , knowledgeable individuals . Thank you for this interview – I have enjoyed chatting .
